Video: The Ethical Issues of Social Media's Attention Economy Business Model
A recent talk from DCU Ethics & Privacy week 2024
Recently, Facebook celebrated twenty years of business…
At the same time, the company CEO Mark Zuckerberg was in the American Supreme Court apologising to families of children who committed suicide from the use of his platform?
Over the last twenty years, the negative outcomes of this new and transformative technology have become more apparent. From the Cambridge Analytica scandals to the Facebook Whistleblower Frances Haugen - more and more, the public is becoming aware of the abuses of power and unethical practices at the social media giants, and this is what I spoke about at the recent DCU Ethics & Privacy Week 2024 (video below).
In this talk, I present an overview of all the ethical issues attributed to the social media giants thus far, and some thoughts on the future of social media with regard to generative and interactive AI.
